Canada Day Celebrations – Port Dover
You can use the Canada 150 logo
The logo, created by Ariana Cuvin from Toronto, is composed of a series of diamonds, or “celebratory gems”, arranged in the shape of the iconic maple leaf. The four diamonds at the base represent the four original provinces that formed Confederation in 1867: Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Additional diamonds extend out from the base to create nine more points—in total representing Canada's 10 provinces and 3 territories. The Canada 150 logo will become an evocative symbol and an enduring reminder of one of Canada’s proudest moments. The maple leaf motif is recognized at home and abroad as distinctively Canadian, and it fosters feelings of pride, unity and celebration. This unique and colourful design is simple enough to be drawn by children, and versatile enough to appear in color variations. The possible uses of the symbol are as unlimited as the spirit and imagination of the Canadian public.
The Dutch bred a tulip just for Canada to celebrate our 150th! “The tulip represents gratitude and the long-standing friendship between Canada and the Netherlands. Blooming in the colours of Canada’s flag, 'Canada 150 tulips' will bring both pride and joy to gardens and communities from coast to coast to coast," said His Excellency Cees Kole, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in a news release. More than 200,000 of the 'Canada 150 tulips' will bloom across the National Capital Region this spring. Next year 300,000 will be showcased in the National Capital Commission's flower beds, with thousands more expected to be planted in community gardens across Canada.
This beautiful tulip was sold by Home Hardware Stores across Canada beginning September 1st – in time for planting in our gardens. They had the exclusive rights to this tulip, unavailable at other stores. I planted 100 bulbs that bloomed only for two seasons and then nothing.
