A little background about who we are. My name is Jim, I am the eldest of three. I have my brothers John and Alex. Gloria and I were married in 1977 and we have our daughter Dawn. Gloria was the youngest of 5, sisters Barbara, Lorraine, Eileen and Brother Don. It's fair to say we all grew up in Toronto but have since scattered afield.
We all live in Ontario with the exception of Alex who now resides
in Nevada after many years of living and working in Florida. Alex has spent most of
his career in public service, as councillor for many years and some years as Mayor,
only to retire next to a golf course and serve his community as a home owner's
representative.
John pursued mostly entrepreneurial interests with many
different and varying business ventures over the years.
I spent most of my career with IBM, in
varying capacities for 32 years. Retiring in 2000 to Port Dover, a lovely quiet
community on the shores of beautiful Lake Erie. Despite being retired I have
never stopped learning or being active. I have been an active member of the
local Lions Club, its president in 2007-2008, graduating to Zone Chair 2008-2009.
Gloria worked for many years as Office Manager to a successful engineering firm, and currently volunteers at
the local hospital, providing support and comfort wherever the need.
I am convinced, if it weren't for service clubs and community volunteers,
this country, or the western world could not survive.
My interest in photography goes back to the age of three, when my father who at that time was a photographer, gave me my first camera. Over the years I too earned money as a freelance photographer but computers became my passion in the early 80s. Digital photography certainly changed the world. I lost virtually all my negatives and pictures during one of our moves. On our trip to England and Portugal in 1990, with my mother-in-law who was born in England and daughter Dawn, I took some 800 pictures, only a few of which survive. I and subsequently Gloria and I travelled across Canada, mostly driving, several times. All the captured images on these voyages live only in our memories. While on the subject of images, I am certain that technology does not exist today that can do justice to the images we experienced in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta and British Columbia. If you have not seen the west, Banff, Jasper, Lake Louise, to mention just a few, make it a life goal to take in this amazing beauty. I have included some images of vacations including the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Mount Rushmore, Old Faithful and the Crazy Horse Monument. Some are passionate creations of humans, others are the magic of millions of years of nature taking its course. As incredible as these images may be, they can't compare to being there viewing the vast beauty and feeling the enormity and atmosphere of these magnificent sites.
I modified the Home page to allow visitors to load it more quickly. Some of the pages have a lot of images and may take awhile to load. Some pages link to documents, videos etc. that your system may not have the required software installed. I have tried to provide links to software that facilitates viewing documents, videos but you may choose not to install these on your system. There is no rule that you must see everything I provided for your viewing pleasure. If you don't feel comfortable installing software please DO NOT do it.
This Website is built to work well with Microsoft Internet Explorer 8. Optimized for 1024x768 screen resolution. Not tested in other environments, such as Firefox, Safari, Chrome, Rust, Netscape, Opera or any of the browsers popping up these days. Untested at different screen resolutions even in IE. As for support you are on your own. If it works enjoy it, if it doesn't work just ignore it and do something else.
This website is really not much more than self-indulgence. A way to share
with family and friends, near and far, experiences and images that hopefully
will bring pleasure or merely information. Many links (underlined words or phrases)
will provide access to work and research, in many cases of others across the world,
(usually in a new browser window or new browser tab). I hope you find the site
useful and informative. I certainly enjoyed creating and maintaining it.
