Double Prominence Eruptions

What Hard Drive Should I Buy

Hard Drive Statistics – Real data about drive life expectancy

Seagate drives are quite cheap but have a high failure rate. Wester Digital drives are quite reliable and are moderately higher priced. Black is the best choice but Blue is cheaper and is quite good for the average user that does not pound the drive with constant access to data (as gamers tend to do).
I would avoid Green Drives altogether from any manufacturer.
Truth is I have Seagate and Western Digital drives and I have lost more than one Seagate over the years. Without backup, the loss of a drive can be devastating. I always recommend two drives for every system. Obviously one contains the Operating System and the installed applications, the other generally contains data. The critical data, I back up to the boot drive (usually but not necessarily to a separate partition). When you have two systems it is nice to back things up to a second system. You would have to be very unlucky to lose two systems at the same time but off site backup is recommended to prevent loss of all your critical data, pictures and documents in the case of a catastrophic incident (fire, flood etc.).

After having my interest peaked for a DashCam I happened to find a site that sold the G1WH DashCam with all the features I figured I needed. Not only did the site sell all their equipment CHEAP, shipping was FREE. Quite a deal. Shopping around I saw the G1Wh ranging from US $85 plus shipping to US $38 ($50 Cdn) at GearBest with FREE shipping world wide. GearBest sells many many products and seems to be the lowest cost provider (Exchange rate varies, site can be set to display in US or Cdn $).

I find the video is excellent quality with this DashCam. I am sure there are many more sophisticated units around but I am satisfied with my acquisition.

NOTE: A class 10 micro SDHC card (up to 32 Gb) is required NOT included with the G1WH but also available from GearBest

The user guide that comes with the DashCam is pretty poor so I created a more usable copy. The image of the controls is repeated so you don't have to keep flipping back and forth. G1WH User Guide

Without off-site backup you can lose everything in a catastrophic event. Of course if you don't have critical data, pictures and or documents that you want to protect from being lost forever you don't need this type of service.
I backup everything from one system to, in most cases, two others but of course they are still in the same location (upstairs downstairs) and vulnerable to a catastrophic event. Some people have no backup at all and drives fail frequently resulting in complete loss of important irreplaceable files.

– Don't Complain, Do the Math Date:February 17, 2012
"Careful when choosing these inverters. You must have a huge battery bank or charging system in place to use the FULL 1000 Watt / 2000 Watt surge capacity. Do the math (Joule's Law P=IV) before you buy. Battery Current Draw = 1000 Watt Rating / Volts = 8.2 Amps at 120 Volts or 82 Amps at 12 Volts. A typical lead acid battery has a 20 hour C/20 rating of 55Ah meaning that it lasts 55 Ah if drawn flat in 20 hours. This means the current draw is rated at 2.75 Amps for 20 hours. In order to run 1000 Watts for 20 Hours one would need 82 Amps divided by 2.75 or 30 55Ah Batteries. Lesser number of Batteries mean a higher draw per battery shortening the overall battery life. Solar Panels or other real time chargers would otherwise be necessary and would be needed with a smaller battery bank. In short, do not complain if you cannot run your 1000 Watt appliance for very long. Do the math and know your application before you buy, that is all I recommend. Don't blame the inverter if your batteries and charging system are insufficient to power this inverter to its full capacity. You cannot get something from nothing."
